SPIRAL POINT

JOURNAL QUESTIONS

What does this chapter evoke in you? How were you raised? Were you consistently held, carried, and touched? Without judgment on you or your parents, how do you think your childhood bonding (or lack of it) impacts your sense of connection as an adult?

If you really knew that you belonged to a much larger family that included animals, rocks, and the trees, how would you live differently? How would you lead differently?

EXERCISES

Hang out in nature, or with your pets, with the intention of viscerally taking in the felt sense of bonded well-being in their company. Let the feelings, body sensations, and thoughts of bonding soak into you like a sponge. It may be subtle; that is okay. Then recall that feeling again before you go to bed. The more moments you have of that and the more you take a moment to consciously register, feel, and somatically take in that felt sense of bonding, the more you rewire your brain to be the brain of someone who was born, raised, and nurtured in the way nature intended. And thus the more connected all your endeavors.

Think of a question or a challenge in your life that you could use some help with. Go to a tree that resonates with you (you don’t have to know why it does) and sit down in front of it. Now out loud (yes, out loud), introduce yourself to the tree. Ask the tree your question. Close your eyes and sit in silence and allow the tree to send you its message. It may come in raw, unprocessed images, or impressions. Allow it to unfold. What do you discover?
